Research Framework
The USES2 project aims to develop and combine novel sensing technologies, advanced processing, and full-mechanical-waveform-based imaging to detect degradation that endangers the safety and impairs availability of infrastructure and components. The current process of scheduled-driven non-destructive evaluation is costly and disruptive, and the alternative of using condition-based Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) is limited by the performance of both in-situ sensing systems and algorithms. The project will train a new generation of researchers with skills across sensing and signal processing, facilitated by the broad intersectoral composition of the consortium. The skills of the researchers will be embodied in a series of laboratory demonstrators and in-situ industrially relevant experiments spanning three key sectors of European industry: energy, mobility, and construction. The project aims to produce world-class researchers expert in innovative sensing solutions, advanced mechanical wave processing, and robust Environmental and Operational Conditions (EOC) compensation methods.
